Default Axle boots and cv joints

I was under the car today ( after spending several hours figiting with the stupid ect sensor that fought me all the way) and I noticed that the axle boots connecting into the " transfer cases" ( I'm not sure what u call those boxes but I'm using 4wd term) were damp. They weren't really anything serious and I don't plan on tackling it till nxt year when I have more $ but I was wondering how much it might cost me to do all four cv joints n both axle boots on each joint and also if it's something I can do on my own or if there are too many special tools involved? Thanks!

Damp alxle boots? If they are just saturated from road grime, thats nothing to worry about. As long as they arent cracked, forget about it. If the boots were cracked and leaking axle grease, and didn't click when turning, then you could repack the cv joints and put new boots on. But it doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about.

I've seen a lot of guys say that even if they ARE ripped and make noise... all you really need to do is get a boot kit because the grease just spun out. They say the Audi CV joints are bulletproof...

For the record, CV boot kit is like $30; if you have a shop look at it, they will want $300 per axle. There is a good DIY, but like onepoint8tee said - as long as they are not ripped I wouldn't worry about it.

One of my front CV boots was ripped and had grease coming out. I changed both of the front ones while I did my control arms and it was super easy.

Here is the DIY I followed: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/misc27.shtml

I bought the boot kits for like 20$ from a local store.

thanks man ill have to throw the link in my folder. theres not alot but it does appear that some axle grease is getting thrown around the bottom of the car ( i think its more around the rear though) Forgive me if im wrong but there should be two axle boots right? one that goes out to by the wheel and one that connects into the "transfer case" ?

Yeah exactly, there are 2 on each side. They call them outer and inner I believe. The ones I changed were the ones by the wheel. (outer I think)
