Hi all am new to this forum and hope some one can help me, I have a 1996 a4 b5 2.6 v6 Quattro my question is my aux fan is constanley running when my car is up to temp and will not switch off the temp needle sits in the Midlle of the gauge. Should my viscous fan kick in before the aux or vice versa.

It will always be on when the AC is on. If the AC is off, the aux fan doesn't run that often, but it does run some.

 

Hi thanks for the quick reply the fan stil runs with a/c turned off, what are the oporating temps of the fan? And my viscous fan has never come on only my aux fan.

 

No idea what the temps are for the aux fan. My friend Mr. Bentley doesn't tell me. But if your viscous fan never turns, that would explain why the aux fan is on all the time.

 

So in theory the viscous fan should lock before the aux fan, I could pull the relay on the aux fan and check if my viscous fan starts to operate when the temp starts to rise.

 

Yes. In fact my viscous fan turns all the time. But when the motor is cool it doesn't turn as fast as the motor. Your test is good, just keep an eye on the temp gauge!
