I had a big problem with the 1.8t auto power until it was up there in rpms. i reaaly want a 5spd. Are the 5 spd slow too until higher rpms. I would plan on chipping it but I don't want a car I have to wind out the gears in to go somewhere. I just sold my 2.8 and liked the lower rpms power- not expecting it from a 1.8t but are the 1.8's slow until like 3-4k rpms?

A chipped 1.8T will give you a boost of low end tq around 2500/3k rpms. You won't get insta-boost right off the line, the turbo needs needs the first couple thousand rpms to spool up. A chip changes everything, auto or not. I'd hold out for manual tho.

That is lookin awfully slow for being chipped and tip... Maybe the video fps causes it to look different... Seems like it takes extra long for 1st to wind out for being chipped.

It seems like it's taking 7 seconds or more to get to 40mph? You should be around 60mph in 7 seconds with a chip!

the trans probably wasn't in sport mode... although it did redline.

if he did it again right after I bet it'd be faster

I dunno

Sport mode? No such thing man. Tip mode just lets you select shift points, doesn't add power... and shift points aren't going to matter if you are trying to take it to reline anyways. Might as well just keep it in D and to the floor.

sorry, mine isn't tip... the only way I can make it hold a gear is if I slap it down the gears... which is pretty much tip, but '97 has sport mode or 'kick down device' which happens when you go past 'full throttle'

my car is quicker, not faster, when I use it - you really have to put the pedal to the floor (maybe even a couple times) and then let off all the way. Once it's in, it will hold second gear even if you aren't stepping on it hard... I guess it's something one would have to experience - I'll see if I can get a video on my iphone (it's all I've got)

look it up, unless my owner's manual is full of crap and I have a really good imagination (which may be the case)
