Default Auto vs. Manual Engine Swap

Is it possible to replace a 97 A4 motor (Automatic) with one from a 97 A4 Stick? Newbie guide by chaos92287 said something about the cranks being different and so you couldn't but there's no further elaboration past that one sentence. Is this in everyone else's understanding as well?

That's my understanding - the cranks are different and the flexplate in the auto bolts up in such a way that the manual flywheel won't attach. You could always grab the manual gear as well and swap your car to manual. Papa_Dios and Meloman both recently did their manual swaps and you could get a lot of advice from them.

You will need a special bearing and shave down the crank. Unless your auto motor is shot I would just swap the transmissions. Search for my thread more info and pics can be found there.
