Default Audi a4 problems

Well im new to this forum and audi's. I recently purchased a 99 audi a4 because i simply love the look of it. Ive been having some trouble with me engine lately. Everytime I get into the car and start it all the lights for the different drives are all lit up. Its not allowing me to go into tiptronic at all anymore. Also when I was driving it, it was down shifting really hard when I would come to a stop.I a hoping its not my transmission. If anyone out there has any idea what it might be and what i can do to fix the problem let me know.

Thank you
Louie

Take it to Autozone and have them read the codes from your check engine light, then post your codes on here and someone can more than likely help you out.

I had the same problem. I took it to autozone and borrowed their obd tool so i can reset the check engine light. My transmission went back to normal and so far it stayed normal. (Knock on wood)

Bad OBD tool; try another place or find someone with VAG-com who can help.

Yep, just go to AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts and they'll do it for free. Get the list of codes and post them here. They'll have code definitions, but as I found out once, their definitions aren't necessarily accurate (although the codes are). Post the codes and we can probably help you narrow it down. In my case, I had a faulty cam sensor, but their code definition was something to do with speed. Found out on here that it was a cam sensor.

dude get teh codes, espacially if it has something to do with the TCU (tranny control unit) the car might be in limp mode and its always good to know why it went into limp mode in the first place.
