u take your car to a dealer (APR, GIAC, Unitronic), the rule of thumb is usually which ones closest to u so if theirs complications u can have them fixed.

they have the software to flash your car which changes your cars settings on the ecu or for older models they will solder a chip on your cars ecu. you'll want to put in a new DV as well because your stock one won't be able to handle the added boost for to long. total cost ends up being anywhere from $400-700 depending on the software and/or dv you buy.

I have an APR stage 1 chip, they sent me a new chip, so I could always switch mine out with the stock one, and I wouldn't have to wait a few days carless for the chip to be returned.

Does chipping diminish the life of the engine at all verses an engine that isnt chipped?

chipping should not diminish the life of the engine at all. really the only thing that you are changing is removing the top speed limiter and changing the fuel curve because i believe that our cars came running slightly lean, by making it run richer it produces more power. it may diminish the life of the engine because it will make you want to have more fun with your car.

No APR, GIAC and Unitonic are actual chip dealers, that deal directly with buyers. if by chance you live near by one of their showrooms you can go by and they can flash your ecu at the store.

Well the stock ecu on my a4 1.8t was pushing just about 5 psi, where as the apr stage 1 chip is now pushing about 17 when I floor the bitch. Might make your turbo blow out a tad quicker, but usually not a too expensive fix. Finding a used and working k03 turbo isn't that hard, and on the other hand, it gives you a reason to upgrade to ateast a k04 :-)

I live in the Houston area and found a GIAC dealer about 20 minutes away. When I get back into town, I am going to drive up there and check out what they have to say. I will be sure to report anything substantial to you all.
