ya im just applying it straight onto it. Its easier that way because you can use the crevices to guide your cutting, but make sure you have a sharp blade. Mine was dull as a spoon. You then take a heat gun and just get a creditcard or something thinner to make the folds.

not 100% done but you get the idea....
first pic is the "impression"
second pic is sanded, than coated 6 times with black lacquer high luster paint
third and fourth pic were wet sanded with 2000 grit sand paper, then appplied multiple coats of clear coat gloss. waiting for it to dry and will buff the **** out.
thanks to eric for finding me a shifter piece, it was the wrong one but it was much easier to cut and work with!
