my car has been sitting in my driveway for over a month and finally I had some time and made progress. after an annoying amount of time, I got the turbo out and found out that it's a genuine (or at least stamped k/kkk) k04-015... I definitely didn't expect that at all especially since everything else is completely stock.. the shaft play is terrible compared to the k03s that I have and some of the blades on the turbine are chipped and I have no idea how many miles are on it. I feel weird downgrading to a k03s but whatever. I don't know too much about turbos so I'm not sure what else to look for in the blown k04 if I'm going to try to sell it or maybe even rebuild it first..
I'm replacing all the intercooler piping and turbo inlet pipe with black silicone ebay stuff. fitment isn't as good as oem but I'm not sure how well more expensive brands fit either. the quality seems to be good and pretty much the same as my friend's samco hoses though.
hopefully my car will be running tomorrow.. then finally I'll start working on the bags.

/pointless update
mines has been plagued as well, puled my exhaust off right at the turbo manifold and then the cold starting problem turned into a disaster and was due to low compression from a head gasket on the way out so its been back burnered. Been running about in a mk2 golf which ive just sold and moving to a corrado but the audi WILL be back maybe give you a chase for lows possibly
