finished the turbo replacement today. I never want to do that again. the turbo is a lot louder and it spools up so quickly with the new piping.. almost too quickly. I'm afraid to try a wot, I put the pedal like 2/3 down and all the sudden it shot up to 26psi in 3rd gear at ~2.25 rpm...
I have no cel, no airbag light, no bad lights at all. it's weird.
Whaaaa? That's werid but awesome. What's the stock boost w/ the k03? I thought it was dramatically less than 26 psi. What other supporting mods do you have to let this happen safely and without a CEL?

Also (only reading from one page back) - were you running with a K04 without knowing it? That's also kind of strange, but awesome.

lol yes I had no idea I was running a k04.. stock boost should spike around 8. I don't know how safe 26+psi is but no cel. the only things I have to boost higher are a giac tune and an n75j valve that I replaced when I thought my original one was bad. I don't know why I'm boosting so high though because it seems like most other people with tunes spike around 15-18

bethlehem pa? cool. have any pictures of your car? maybe we've seen each other around

Haha, that's definitely strange.

Yeah, I'm living in the southside off summit street. Have been driving an RSX until very recently - the b5 was down for a timing belt job for a few weeks, but not it's a solid DD.

So far the car has been solid with the exception of a strange high-pitched whistling noise, which I think may be due to an exhaust leak.

that sound could also be your turbo which may be gone. and aledelic caould ur boost be caused by you tune being for a k04 there for expectiong so much from the ko3 is forcing it? since you were running a ko4 your tune could be for a ko4 unless if you bought it for a ko3

I'm pretty sure it's not a blown K03. When I did the timing belt job, I checked the shaft play and compressor fin integrity. Both were OK. Also, the noise that the car makes does not sound like turbo death whine from various internet videos that I've seen.

Makes sense about the K04 tune with a different turbo.. Sounds like you should get yourself another K04.

my tune is for a k03. I bought the car completely stock (besides the k04..)

walt I'm not sure what kind of whistling it is but you should check for a boost leak, that could be the problem

Gotcha. So the K04's can simply bolt on without any other supporting mods? That's pretty sweet actually!

...which may be attributed to a boost leak, as you say. They seem to be a bit harder to diagnose/detect than exhasust leaks. need an aircompresser and whatnot.
