Is there white residue from the seafoam smoke between the compressor and catalytic converter? Mine does this due to a leaky gasket. When the engine's cold it may also be a good idea to just check the three turbo to cat bolts. Mine have been undoing themselves which trashed the gasket and made a nice exhaust leak. Just check with your fingers.

I'll look more into that later.. hopefully it's nothing serious

new problem.
car doesn't drive. it starts normally, then dies about a second after. the only way I can rev the engine is if I repeatedly tap on the gas pedal; holding it down doesn't work. I noticed that the gas pedal is pretty loose and can be easily moved back and forward about an inch. as it's being pressed or played with, there's a clicking/clunking noise around the firewall. I also noticed that the throttle cable is pretty loose. Is there another way to tighten it beside with the green clip in this picture? I set it as tight as that will go and it didn't really make a difference..

does the throttle position have the be set with vag com? I just ordered this cable

anyone else have any idea what could cause this? I did just seafoam the car recently and I'm not sure what effects that could have involving this. no cel. 3/4 tank of gas

There is no other way to adjust it. Check to see if the metal ball at the end of the cable is still there in the TB, and that it is still connected to the TB at all... If maxing out the cable like you've done in the picture did nothing, then chances are that the cable isn't even connected to the TB.

Remove the knee guard from your driver's side and look up under there - there's another little 'end' to the wire that connects to the top of your gas pedal... it might have come loose there as well.

If you start the car, can you rev it with the TB itself from under the hood, or can you not even get it started for that long?

I can rev it from under the hood but it's just like revving it from in the car and dies just as easily... I'll check by the pedals
thanks for the response

Check your plugs. I usually do a full seafoam treatment with new oil and plugs. I usually like to replace my spark plugs just in case after a intake seafoam treatment. I dunno if you have access but try to scan the car. No CELs yet? The clunking sound is normal, mine does it too. I would at least clean and regap the plugs and then see whats what.

As far as the seafoam smoke goes, it's probably either a leaky manifold to turbo gasket or a crack in your exhaust manifold

you would hear a clicking sound if you had a cracked exhaust manifold or leaking manifold to turbo gasket.
