I don't have a spare. I still can't get it open but I've just been using a pocketknife instead of a flathead screwdriver.. I have no tools here or in my car.. prefacelift avants all have euro style hatches. I wish mine was early enough to have a stubby mirror

I went to my sedan to take some things from it and figured I'd try starting it again. this time it cranked once and there was a popping noise from the engine and it started smoking in all directions under the engine cover it stopped by the time I could have gotten the cover off but smoke was coming out of the intake then.. i tried starting it a little after and it just acted like it did before (slowly cranking, no starting). my timing belt was changed less than 7k miles ago but it sounds like it might make sense if that was the problem the whole time rather than any starter issues.. I didn't look for any visible signs yet but I will soon..
also notice the right side of the avant rear bumper..

I'm hoping I can keep the avant and get the sedan fixed and running for not too much money and keep it in the family, mainly my dad would drive it (after swapping suspension with stock)

The key is divided into two parts. The top is the switchblade and the bottom is the remote with the battery part.

Do you see the indent between the two parts (where the rings are)? Basically you need to push those two parts away from each other using a flathead (or pocket knife should work). Push it up towards the switchblade part then the two parts should separate.

When you get those two parts off, take the bottom part and you'll see how there's a separation between the top and bottom (you'll see the cut). Use something sharp to pray one of the sides off. The battery should be in there.

I can take step by step picture if you need me to. Just PM me your number (you can receive MMS right?)

that's what I figured you're supposed to do to open it but mine seems pretty stuck.. I'll keep playing with it
I can't receive mms on og iphone but if you still want my number you can have it

I went over to the sedan and tried to look for any visible signs of anything but I couldn't find any. I could only take the top cover off so there wasn't much to see..

Really??

I can holler and talk to you before we go to bed?

And text each other with whatever we're doing.
