Default Alarm Module vs Central Locking Pump

Are those 2 items one and the same in my 2001 A4 Avant quattro 1.8t? The service manual seems to imply as much, but articles I've read online seem to point to the alarm module being separate. I need to change the batteries in mine, and I have no clue which module I'm supposed to cut open.

No, but the alarm module supposedly does. And when I look up "alarm module" in the service manual, it gives me the location for the central locking pump. So I'm confused about where the alarm module really is on an '01 Avant.

If its anywhere its under the dash. its not the central locking pump. Although, off the top of my head try chasing the antenna wire for the keyless entry. Should lead you to the device that controls it. Why exactly are you changing these batteries?

Just checked some sources, it looks liek the alarm module is in the central lockign pump box, which makes sense considering it controls all the doors. and locks. so why are you changing batteries?

Because they're dead. The alarm horn stopped beeping a couple months ago (the horn you hear when locking the doors), and now the alarm module no longer rotates through key fob codes when I lock/unlock the doors, so the module keeps locking out the starter after I've locked/unlocked the car 200 times. They're nimh rechargeable batteries, they don't last forever. Apparently 12 years is a long time...

Ah hah! Thank you, that's what I was thinking too, just didn't want to take it apart and find out I was wrong.

I have a spare one apart and I see no batteries. Mind taking a picture when you do this.

Then what's this referring to? Maybe I've misunderstood where to find these mythical batteries:

I'm bamboozled. I have no idea what this hooplah is. His DIY looks like a complete different module tho. Tear it open and see what's up.
