Default Advice on new CATS

96' A4

My drivers side catalytic coverter is shot and the passenger side is going. Car runs like a champ. Any place to buy new OEM parts to replace at a discounted price or go with an aftermarket CAT?

Any help is appreciated.

I'm guessing that with a V6, the cats are under the car (unlike on the 1.8T). In that case, I would go with an aftermarket universal fit type of cat. Magnaflow makes some good universal ones that aren't very expensive.

Yes, go with a universal or straight pipes. Shop should weld them in for pretty cheap.

I searched partsbin.com for the magnaflow CATS and the are so many different types. Does anybody know a specific kind of CAT that would work well as a replacemnt part. Im not going OEM. The car has 125K. Its a waste of money and ive heard through various opinons that Bosal is horrible. Let me know

any 2" cat should work I think but do both at once unless you go oem. I would take advantage of the time and do 2 1/4" cats to 2.5" piping and magnaflow muffler at the back. The installation wont be all that much more and you would get a mean sound out of it.

no offense, but that didn't answer the f*cking question at all. i don't give a **** bout sound or nething else past the catalytic coverter. right now the stock downpipe and muffler are fine. I just want to replace the cats. There has to be someone else that has run into this problem.

replacement cats:

^^guy said magnaflow was decent. no problem.

wheres the best place to find them? (if you could only hear me saying this about now)

Try hottexhaust.com They are a magnaflow dealer and you can find some good coupon codes that drop prices pretty well. vortex, jetta, ford, fordv8, are some of the ones I remember.

At the very least you should be happy for the free bump so others would read it...
