About To Do My Belt Job
And i have a few options, because i want to sell my 96 Audi A4 2.8, and i figure with a bad water pump and both belts on the verge of snapping and a oil pan that was toar open (hit a rock) and the fact that it has 191 miles with a interrior id rate a 8/10 and a exterrior id rate at 7/10 its only worth about 1500? And after i replace the belts, water pump, oil change replace oil pan and gaskets it i should get 2500-3000 what do you think?
And another delema is i need to buy the correct tools including the cam gear holder/pulley holder. Or i can have a local hole in the wall shop do it all for me for 300 labor. Should i do it myself and buy the tools or take it to the shop? I figure if i do the belt job myself and i do it correctly i can post a add on craigslist and the forums for me to do the belt job for other people at 500 labor? Do you think id make good money doing that or should i stick to having the shop doing it? Sorry for all the questions im just confused with what i should do and how much my car will be valued at? All help/imput is much appreciated! Thanks.

oh wow, my shop with the 475 labor charge, was also charging me 56 for an oil change at the same time. plus parts wich was like 280for everything, and an additional 400 for waterpump/tstat labor.
so 875 labor
56 oil
280 all parts.
but then again other shops and stealer ship was 1200 full tbelt job(water pump and tstat included), no oil change.

Don't have it done by a hole in the wall shop. If you're having it done, pay someone who knows these cars. I hope you can double your asking price but I'm not sure if it will. One thing that is iron clad though: don't start attempting to repair or work on other people's cars on the basis of doing one car. I'm not talking crap here, don't take it that way, but seriously don't put the life of other people's engines on the line based on 9 hours of work. There are a lot of variations on these engines and each has quirks that you need to be aware of before attempting to do the jobs for others.
