A4 2000, did you ever get your rear rotors changed?

I'm not sure how different the 2000 and 1998.5 B5 FWD rear brake setups are, but if they are close to the same, then you would have run into the rear bearing and ABS sensor ring problems.

On B5 FWD, the rear bearings sit inside the rear rotors. Instead of re-using the old rear bearings, I bought new ones for ~$58 (both sides) and have installed those in the rotors.

However, now I'm stuck on the ABS ring. It's really tight on the old rotor, and I'm wondering if anybody has any tips to remove it. Thanks!

Well, I ended up using a puller to get that ring off, for those who are interested... At first I was hesitant to do so because I was worried it might warp the ring, and it did slightly, but not too badly.

Ideally if you have a smaller 3-arm puller that would work best. The 3-arm puller I have is too large, so I used my 2-arm one and moved it around in 90 degree increments.

Ha, ha, not yet and I made this thread a long time ago lol. There's so many things I need to do to get my car running in top shape and I've been broke as hell. I hate driving my car like this.

Granted, I have a 99.5 and quattro, but that just does not sound right to me... When I did my rear rotors, they were completely seperate from the bearing and such, that sits in the wheel hub. Is it different on the FWD?

Oh, and A4 2000, trust me, I've been there (last year) and it sucks. I had to drive on a mild misfire for 2 weeks because I couldn't afford a simple coil pack!

I know what you mean, it really sucks. However, instead of driving around like that I've put myself into very mild credit card debt (still making payments well on time). In the last month I've done front control arms, upgraded front brakes to A8/TT, changed my fuel filter, installed a subwoofer, got an alignment, and just over a month ago got 2 new Falken FK-452 tires (almost $200 EACH out the door). Being a poor college student this ain't easy, so I know where you are coming from!

Yep, it is that different. The FWD has a rear axle that sticks out, and is anchored solidly to the suspension. So, the bearings sit inside of the rotor, and spin on that axle. Overall this method is more efficient and lighter weight than having the axle spin inside a bearing carrier, but it is still a PITA to change out the rear rotors.

I just realized I should have done a DIY on the FWD's rear brake rotor/pad and wheel bearings... After scouring the Internet I never found one. Anybody in SoCal want their rear rotors/pads/bearings changed so I can do a DIY?
