A4 vs S4
Hi, I'm new to these forums, and I'm about to buy my first Audi.
I've done a considerable amount of research, and I know the technical differences between the B5 A4 and S4, but I am torn between which one I should purchase.
I am considering either the B5 A4 1.8T quattro manual or the B5 S4 2.7TT manual.
My question is: Which one has the most bang for the buck in terms of upgrades and modifications?
Right away, I will be doing intake, exhaust, suspension, and a tune, so I need to know which car will react the most to these upgrades.
Which car has the most potential, and by how much?
Which car gives the most performance per dollar?
Any input/opinions will be appreciated.

Of course you start with more on a 2.7TT. more turbos, more pistons, more displacement. But you also have more breakdowns, more expensive, and more maintenance. From what i hear, the 2.7TT has plenty of things that go wrong, hence why we dont see it anymore. If you have the money, get a B6 S4. 4.2 V8, that will keep you busy for awhile going fast. But if we're talking B5, then its 1.8T A4 all the way!
Good luck! Drop it, chip it, free up the exhaust and get some rims!

What kind of hp and torque figures would a stage 3 kit net you on a 1.8T? And how much $$?

Get the S4 i got a stock 97 1.8t and am just holding out till next summer when i get a S4. S4 will tear apart a stage 3 a4. Double turbo to 1. but yes it will cost a lot more to fix if problems come up(which they will). If you do the above listed to a s4 and a4 the s4 would win straight up.
but most of us on this forum drive a4's so expect a4 to get the most votes
just to add some video

the S4 is a performance model to begin with.
So you'll spend alot of money just to make a normal A4 even perform close to a stock S4.
But, the 2.7T is the most expensive engine audi has ever made to maintain.
