A4 diagnostic plug missing?
Today i took my 97 a4 1.8tqm in to get my codes read for my CEL and, where i believe the plug is suposed to be, in the back ashtray area, it isnt. there is a little spot that looks like its where it goes, and the ashtray has the Check engine symbol on it, but theres no plug. I loosened up my center console to see if it was under there and it was'nt. So my question is, is there another plug or likely place where the plug could have been moved to. Thanks in Advance, Nick

RE: A4 diagnostic plug missing?
I believe there is a spot underneath the handbrake, but you have to remove that assembly. I remember seeing something not too long ago on it... you don't have the OBD port underneath your steering column, right by your fuse box?

RE: A4 diagnostic plug missing?
I read something earlier saying early a4's had it in the back ashtray, and later ones had it under the dash on the drivers side, and he couldn't find it under the dash when i took it in. but i just went out to double check and i found the spot, but once again theres no plug. hopefully its under there somewhere, I'll take it apart tommorow, to check. Thanks for the help, i would have looked earlier but my door doesnt even openone notchright now because of some fender damage, and i thoughti found the only spot.

Take the panel off under the steering wheel. I went to have mine checked at autozone once and since the connector clips into the panel it can sometimes just come unclipped and fall behind there. Just try taking the panel off and check if became unclipped.
