Default A4 1.8t q overheats

HELP
My 1997 Audi A4 1.8T quattro started overheating today! I am not sure what is wrong. I think that electric fan doesn't come on to cool car down. Only comes on if A/C is on. Now I also think that thermostat might be gone but not sure. Car goes up in temperature very quick and it tends to go over 90, 100, 110... I let it cool down before starting again. If you know what is wrong can you pleas tell me and if you can point me to the location of electric fan switch and thermostat.

Thanks in advance

Sasha

Could be a bad thermostat which is a pain in the *** to get at. 1.8T have a mechanical fan. Also check if the belt came off for it which will also stop your water pump.

Burp the cooling system first - costs nothing and taken 30-60 minutes. You may have air trapped in the system.

Default Help

Thank you guys
I took out termostat and car runs good around city with temp at 90 but when I go on HW it goes over to 100-110. Now I dont know if the water pump is gone and it is not pumping. Head gasket is OK. I didn't see any oil in coolant or water in engine oil.
Can you please HELP me sice it is big problem for me know and I dont know what to do.

THank you

I burped a system and took for a ride. In city is OK, On HW is ok if I am doing 100km/h, as soon as I pushed 120-125km/h temp gage starteng going up, I came of the HW and temp gage went down to 90. Now I dont have a termostat so this car should not overheat. I am thinking it's something to do with water pump. Maybe it's not working properly.
What do you think?
any advice?

Thanks

One more question. I noticed that A/C fan works only when A/C is on but not cooling rad when the car is hot. The one runs ok becouse it is driven by belt but the other one no!
Audi a4 1.8t quattro.

It this fan needs to run as well than might be fuse, relay? Where is located so I can take a look. Please help me! Thanks
