A4 1.8T intermediate shaft troubles
I had an oil leak around the seal on the intermediate shaft driving the oil pump. Upon removal and inspection, I found the "bearing" or "sleeve" on the outboard side of the shaft is toast. Dealers cannot seem to find the piece. Without it, the shaft moves and leaks and I am sure will destroy the seal....suggestions?

No... its a stainless Steel sleeve that sits in the block. It looks like it was starved for oil (shock of all shocks) and spun, now both the ring (more like a bearing) is scored and the shaft would need to be machined as well. I have purchased a used Intermediate shaft that looks good, but the sleeve/bearing is shot for sure, and the block is questionable to be resurfaced so a new one will seat properly.

well if you did spin a bearing, its probably going to be easier to take it to a shop that builds audi engines and have them do the repair. if you just have to replace the bearing, thats one thing. but if you have to resurface the bearing journal, that is a bit harder. this is the first time ive heard of an IM shaft bearing spin.
