99 1.8t overheating badly
hi guys,
I need your help, im at home recovering from brain tumor so cant operate at my full capacity yet and too and from hospital my wifes a4 has started overheating due to loss of water to the point where a light comes on dash and it beeps, so we stopped car and at back of engine around temp sensor it sounds like boiling water moving around but no clear exit point except there is a puddle on top of gearbox. So I got it home got mirror and torch out and there is water on the heater hose but again no actual sign of an exit point. I pulled sensor out and it looks fine even wear on o-ring so i put vaso on it and put it back in. Now the housing it goes into has 3 bolts from what i can see and the lower bolt does have a drip of water on it so im thinking maybe when i have energy to pull it off and re-seal it? Has anyone sean this before? probably at this stage i am going to have to add water everyday and keep an eye on it as I have no energy but just wanted to see if im going in right direction. Any help is appreciated as usual and btw once water is re-filled it only gets to 90 as it always has and there is no water in oil or oil in water.

Yes, it is a common coolant leak area. The giveaway sign is seeing coolant that is leaking on top of the gearbox directly under it. There are other manufacturers besides Audi/VW that makes them. I got mine from Carquest with all the o-rings and everything since there's a store by my house that gets the parts the same day if you leave a deposit in the morning. Or you can order from other sites like ecstuning.com You can probably just swap the plastic plugs but make sure to get new o-rings since that's important to have new.
