97 A4 Sunroof Stuck, Wont Come Back Out. Please Help!
I opened up the sunroof because it was hot, went to close it because I saw some rain off in the distance so I turned the switch. Noticed a minute later wind is still blowing in from the roof... Tried turning the switch again and again, the sunroof wont close! It clicks and moves a little, then gets jammed. Tried the manual method near the dome map light to no avail Took off the headliner with some friends' and the wife's help, took off the sunroof assembly and got the roof to close manually with some effort. What's wrong with our car? It wouldnt be so bad if the AC worked, but when we turn it on it shows the snow flake icon but doesnt blow cold and the compressor doesnt turn so we sorta rely on the sunroof lol... Anybody else have similar issues? The sunroof glass appears as if the driver side part of it comes forward more than the passenger side thus leading it to jam at an angle. Please help

Same thing happened last night with mine, identical in every way. Pulled like hell on it while the wife turned the switch and I got it to close. Gonna remove it sometime soon and see what I can do with it. For now, I just vent it up at the rear.

Both of us tried that - the problem was that when you tried to Chloe the roof, only the driver end of the roof moved, so it ended up jamming itself at an angle. I was able to brute-force mine closed. Now I need to remove it and see what I can do to fix it up. Maybe I'll finally suede the headliner now lol. Only had the materials for 2-1/2 years...

The metal & rubber sliding shade backstop might have broken off on the passenger side and gotten stuck in the track. (happened to me)
Or the spring-loaded hinge that pushes the glass upward in vent mode might have become detached or broken, again getting stuck in the track. (my hinge had come undone and was just sitting on top of the headliner)
+ I ditched my sunroof sliding shade after putting in a replacement sunroof assembly.
+ Don't try to test full retraction of the assembly without the glass in place -- it will destroy the assembly

I think you're going to have to pull it apart to see what's broken and if it's fixable. You could possibly put the roof in vent mode, remove the glass, and see what you can fish out of the track. That is certainly easier than removing the headliner and dropping the whole assembly. Just don't run the roof motor with the glass removed (I learned the hard way).
The metal piece with rubber stopper isn't necessary, though it keeps the slider shade from rattling. Both of the stopper parts were snapped off on my replacement assembly, so I just ditched the shade.
The spring-loaded hinge is required -- sounds like yours is okay.

A/C compressor...
Mine was doing the same exact thing... snowflake came on, but clutch never engaged. Turned out the compressor was locked up solid, and the clutch electromagnet coil was burned out.
I bought a new compressor off amazon.com for just under $300 shipped, and replaced it at the same time I did the 75K mile timing belt replacement job since the whole front has to come off the car to get at the front of the engine.
It blows nice cold air once again
But working on this car sure is a royal pain.
