Default 97 1.8t ATF Recommendations?

My 97 A4 1.8t FWD has gone 128K so far. Takes a long time to shift out of 1st sometimes. Don't know if the trans was ever serviced so I'd like to change the fluid. Whats good? What do you guys use?

Best things for transmissions is to use what the user manual calls for. Can't go wrong buying the fluid from a VW Audi dealer. The price will be higher but for 100K interval it won't make or break you.

It might be fluid. But then you might dump $200+ on fluid and filter, and have to drain it all back out because that wasn't it. I think you need to VAG-COM that, even if you have to pay for it. See what codes are in the TCM.

BTW, I agree with z28pete, you really need to be a choir boy when it comes to ATF fluid. Either Audi, or that Pentosin brand ATF has the same specs.

Trans fluid is good for 100K?
