My son's non OE thermostat with bigger disk on the back than stock opened up once, and then hung up on the inner edge of the thermostat housing and stayed open until I decided to open it back up and put an OE one in there. So if you used an aftermarket thermostat check them closely to the OE one you removed.

Sheesh Mark, nice call. Those are the symptoms where, opened once, not it runs too cold. That could make sense.

rmr1499, I agree with someone else. This guy does not have to do this. A lot of guys wouldn't. You'd better refer a lot of business to this guy.

Ok so shop redid whole timing job again put new thermostat in old one had little tension so much for quality control huh.. Ok we'll car warmed up normally drove it got on highway to go to work after like 10 minutes on highway gauge started to drop not like last time last time it went to the first notch on the gauge. This time It only dropped 2 notches from half and held like that the rest of the way we'll got off highway stopped at gas station to pump gas after that started the car back up and the gauge was back at half way so it raised 2 notches after I stopped and my heat stRted to blow warm after that?

That's still a little odd. Did you put in an Audi stat this time or is it another aftermarket one?

There is a chance that what you were seeing is just an air bubble working itself out. I've had one version or another of that V6 for the last 20 years, and its a motor that tends to work out its own air bubbles with a little time.
