5 Speed swap
#21
Haha Thanks!!
Update:
This weekend wen t back to work on the tranny determined to get it out.
Remove this bolt from the starter (pointing to it)
When trying to get to the bottom tranny to engine bolts you will need more room for an open ended ratchet so if you still have the bracket for your belly pan remove it.
Use a breaker bar or something similar to create some space. Also suggest you unbolting some of your suspension for more room
These are the bottom bolts (tranny to engine bolts)
This one is a bit tricky (more in a little bit)
For the above bolt (on the drivers side) its a bolt with a nut so when you break the nut loose it will start to just spin with the bolt. I managed to wedge in a flat head to keep it from spinning and took it off.
From under the car

Finally got to the starter ha (unbolt it pretty straight forward remember where the wires go!!)
At this point just stick a screwdriver and start prying the tranny from the motor. You are not home free yet as you still need to remove the 3 flex plate bolts (T55). You WILL need a friend on this one. Have them spin the flexplate from unerneath with a flat head and hold it there as you break these 3 bolts off.
After that and a lot of manuevering and pushing pulling and tugging you should be here.
Congratulations you are 1/2 way done lol. My friend has a shop so for the shaving of the crank and reinstall I will be using his lift. I will try and take as many pics as possible.
My transmission and accessories came in today but solowb5 on vortex screwed me on the drivers side bracket so I had to order another one from ECS.
I received 01 S4 pedals and just plan to swap that out with the ones I have instead of swapping out brake pedals and adding the clutch pedal. Also got my hardline and 01 S4 cluster and shifter box. All in all she should be on the road soon.

Been busy with family stuff but was able to get some work done
Be warned the following was the biggest PITA so far during this entire swap. Patince is key.
Time to swap out the suto pedals for manual pedals. To do this you need to remove your BMC and booster.
The reservior comes out fairly easy (10mm bolt then just pull) Undo the lines to the BMC and then use a T45 for the two bolts you will also need to remove the two nuts. I pulled on the firewall?? to make myself some more room.
Also if havent already remove your battery. There is a bar which you will see when is in the way when you go to take off the bottom bolt from the booster. It runs all the way from the drivers side to where your a/c lines will be. Remove these 4 bolts (2 on each side and shown here drivers side) to give yourself the room you need.
I have no pics of the following beause my camera was dead. I removed my auto pedals (one bolt only after you take out the brake booster rod it should come right out). I bought an entire manual pedal assembly so instead of swapping brake/clutch pedals I just decided this would be easier. When you're doing this remember to hook up your clutch hardline and BMC hose (all holes are already there). In order to get the entire assmebly in I had to drop the steering column and unplug the steering rod itself (fun times) after some extra love we were able to get everything bolted in. All of this will make more sense to you when you're underneath it all and is more common sense than anything. Here is the finished product.
Random stuff removed from the interior. Be careful here as all of this stuff is plastic and prone to breaking.
TCU under the carpet (black box on the pass side)
I have everything I need. I decided to finish the swap at my house instead of taking it to my buddies shop (less hassle). I will be swapping the input/output shaft seals on the 5 speed tranny shaving the crank and bolting the tranny up this weekend. So she should be running by Sunday! I have a question for anyone that may know since I already have my cluster out should I just swap in my S4 now? Then get it coded later?

hey dios, did you go with a 5speed trans(i know it says it in the title but..) cuz the 6 speed can be used with the stock 1.8t and i highly recommend it, because if you plan to mod it, the gear ratios in the 5 speed are already not the greatest and the 6th gear would definitely make an improvement in overall driving.
anyways i see you refer to it as the "5 speed tranny" but if you have time/money/patience try to find a 6speed!

Yea I went with the 5 speed tranny. I'm not trying to break any records so I think I'll be fine. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Ill let you you know about the axles but honestly if they are making noises assuming you have a lifetime warranty (from the parts store) I'd take them back.
