2001 Audi A4 1.8T engine problem
Hey all,

My engine has begun to startidleing roughwhen the car is stopped. This appears to happen more frequently when The Air Conditioning is on. the car has not stalled yet, it just idle's really rough until I turn the AC off. My warrenty just ran out so I have to take it in, I was just hoping to get some insight before I go in so I don't get taken to the cleaners.

Thanks in advance!

first thing - how old are your plugs? Fouled or old plugs will lessen your spark, thus giving bad idle.
what kind of car is it? engine type? if its a 1.8t then make sure all your turbo hoses are connected and are not cracked/broken.

Not sure it's related, but has your engine been updated with the replacement coils (subject of a "customer service action" by Audi........to replace all cylinder ignition coils whether they've failed or not.......a problem that resulted in "rough" engine performance and/or stalling).

This is a good thing to check - Audi just started replacing them ALL whether you've had a problem or not. Did mine. And its free... and its something you won't have to do in another 20, 30, 50k miles.

Good luck...

When a coil goes bad, you don't get rough idling; you get only three cylinders firing and that's NOT the same. You'll know when a coil goes out. The car bucks and jerks and you lose significant power, not to mention the CEL coming on.

Your problem does sound like a dirty throttle body.
