2001 a4 power seat problem
bought a new 01 A4 today. so far....love the car. You'll probably throw up a bit in your mouth, but it reminds me a lot of a Ford Contour SVT I use to have. It's maybe a bit slower and doesn't handle as well, but I'm getting too old to care about that stuff anyway;-) Of course, I only owned that car for the first 2 years of its life and I imagine it's being held together with bits of string and spittle by now.
On to my questions...
the drivers side power seat works for about half a second and then just stops. It eventually may work again...or not. For a while, I thought jiggling the seat was doing it but that may have been a coincidents. regardless, even when it works again, it only does so for another half second and then stops again. the passenger side works fine. when it stops, no movement is possible. the lumbar support also stops working. My understanding is that there are separate motors for the forward/back and up/down movements, so that seems to rule a motor problem out.
Any ideas as to what the problem might be?
Where is the fuse/circuit breaker/relay for the power seats? Is there just one for both? I had a mechanic guess at it and he says it could be a switch in the seat itself.

RE: 2001 a4 power seat problem
it handles less well than a contour? you must not be driving correctly, sry idk the word i'm looking for, i'm drunk. as for the seat problem, there are electrical connections under the seat and they might be loose. the fuse is on that part of the dash where it's hidden when the door is closed on the driver's side

RE: 2001 a4 power seat problem
The Contour SVT handled extremely well, but this is a Audi forum and I digress...
There is no reference to the power seats (only heating) in the fuse diagram. The manual states that the power seats are protected with a circuit breaker. Where would i find this beast?
btw, this morning the power seats worked just fine. So whatever it is, it's intermittant.

I don't even know what that is. It was a front wheel drive. My A4 has quattro. There were numerous comparisons at the time to the audi a4 (among other cars), and my recollection is that the contour svt performed better (i.e. faster 0-60 and better handling). in most other regards, I consider the audi superior. Of course, the audi also costs a heck of a lot more;-)
