Default 2000 Audi A4 2.8 V6 Questions

I am the proud owner of a 2000 Audi A4 2.8 V6 sedan. As a first car, it is a dream come true. It has 184,000 mi on it but we know the guy who owned before and who meticulously took care of it.

My first question is on the cup-holder. Ah the infamous in-dash cup-holders. Mine is not working properly...anybody know how much it would be to get it fixed? Including labor?

My second question is on the side mirrors. The liquid in them that automatically darkens when headlights hit it is all screwed up. One mirror is half brown and the other is clouded up. How much would it be to replace those? Would it be better just to get normal mirrors instead of the auto-dimming ones?

My third question is about the seats. Mine has a pretty substantial rip in the drives seat. Any advice on what to do? I ideally would like to have it fixed legitimately...anybody know how to do that? I am just worried about the price. Any way this could be done for a couple hundred bucks tops? If it's too pricey, anyone know where to find a quality seat cover? I've looked but come up empty-handed....Don't know where to try anymore. Preferably it would just be for the bottom cushion and match the gray leather.

My fourth question is in regards to manually shifting the tiptronic transmission. Is it an issue that the screen between the dials in the dash is faded out? I dan't see anything on it really so I wouldn't know what gear I'm in. I've never actually tried manually shifting but I want to.

My last question is about MPG. I have no idea what it actually is. Anybody know what it should be for this engine? It is a quattro just to clarify.

Thanks for your time, even with all the little problems and quirks with the car it is always a joy to drive.

1) You'll need to remove the centre console to get the cup holder out and replace it with a new one. Elaborate on what's going on with it, maybe we can help get it fixed without removing it. I wouldn't pay someone to do that... You can search on how to remove the centre console.

2) The one that's brown is due to the heated mirrors. The one that's all cloudy is from the anti-dazzle. If you don't care about the anti-dazzle feature check out ebay for a regular mirror(will probably still have the heating element). A few have bought some there or do what I did and bought them off www.ecstuning.com. I should've checked ebay first

3) Morpheous had his seat repaired for like $200 I think?

4) The DIS screen is known for that. They can be repaired for $250 range. Go play with the tip... Just don't downshift above ~3000rpm. It'll also downshift for you when slowing down. Manual cars don't have indicators of what gear their in so treat it the same way. Its only there to help you not redline when downshifting to 1st by accident, but u'll soon know what gear ur on.

5) MPG... I would think 19mpg average for me...

Not sure what VGO means by removing the center console. You need to remove the upper trim piece, the one that surrounds the foglight & hazard buttons and cupholders. From there, I think I was able to just pull it out, if not I used the removal keys for the radio

My second question is on the side mirrors. The liquid in them that automatically darkens when headlights hit it is all screwed up. One mirror is half brown and the other is clouded up. I've looked but come up empty-handed....Don't know where to try anymore. Preferably it would just be for the bottom cushion and match the gray leather. ECS has the bottom covers in the 300 range. Someone on Audizine.com just had their front seat and back seat reupholstered in the 300 range also. That would make me think about 150 for just the front seat.

My fourth question is in regards to manually shifting the tiptronic transmission. Is it an issue that the screen between the dials in the dash is faded out? I dan't see anything on it really so I wouldn't know what gear I'm in. I've never actually tried manually shifting but I want to. Unsure, I have a 5spd manual

My last question is about MPG. I have no idea what it actually is. Anybody know what it should be for this engine? It is a quattro just to clarify.I drive 0.9 miles to work with a lot of other really short trips in between and I average 18.8 MPG (No highway). As far as Highway MPG I've experienced upwards of 27MPG, but the last time I recorded it I went 387 miles (all highway except for maybe 30 miles) on 15.3 gallons of Shell V-power 93, so about 25 MPG. That was with luggage, AC on, and a passenger.

Expect 18/25. With careful driving you can get 27+ highway.

Thanks for your time, even with all the little problems and quirks with the car it is always a joy to drive.
Congratulations.

I'm mistaken... I believe the cupholder can be removed just by removing the top trim piece and channel something in there to slide the cupholder out. Sorry. The only time I only had that out was when I did the double din swap.

That makes sense then.. Yeah I've had the cupholder out before, but never removed the console.

I m not the most handy guy so removing that trim sounds daunting...I can pull the thing in and out but it doesn't work as it's supposed to (i.e. as a button you push and have it come out). The front part with the picture of the cup also came off, but I supposed some glue could fix that.

As for the mirrors, I just looked on EC and they were over $200 for both conservatively. If I go to the dealer will they be even more expensive? I'd like the auto-dim feature but if it's too pricey it doesn't seem worth it. on EC they were $200-$400 for one mirror with that feature, which is unconscionable.

I looked on ECS and the cheapest thing I could find was $350 and that was fake leather and didn't include any installation. I'm new here, so could I contact Morpheous or whoever the other guys are from Audizine (another forum?) to see where they got that work done? I am in the New England area so that could be an issue if they're across the country of world.

For the center display in the dash, I saw a site that would do it for $150 but I'm not sure how exactly. Another thing happened, now when I put the car into drive the top part of the screen goes black for some reason. Doesn't matter too much now since I could never read anything there before, but if I go to get it fixed will that affect it?

Thanks for the help guys.

For the mirrors just get regular ones with the blindsspot angle. If u ever get ur windows tinted the antidazzle won't do much.

U can use a butterknife to pry out the top trim where the hazard switch. There are 6 clips in total. 3 on top 3 on the bottom. 2 of them are on the edge and the 1 is in the middle respectively. Don't panic if they break cuz they most likely will.

Do u have an aftermarket radio? That's normally where the radio info is displayed. Unless u have the thing turned off at the wiperstalk.

Find an upholsterer in town and get an estimate.

I have the original OEM radio. I dont get why the screen does that now either.

If the clips break how will i get the trim back on? Its wood, real i am assuming but i may be naive lol.

Not getting the auto-dim would be more practical but maybe i should talk to my dealer just in case.
