2000 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro Testdrive, questions?
Hi Everyone ,
I recently test drove a low mileage 2000 Audi A4 2.8 v6 Quattro, 5 speed manual. Very nice car, but the check engine light was on. The seller implied that it was because he would fill the car with the engine running, and that the CE light would come on and go away eventually. He took it to a mechanic who apparently wasn't sure what the problem was and implied that the light would come on because of his fueling habits. The code went away after the mechanic looked at it and came back after fueling. The gas cap looked okay and screwed in fine, however I didn't start the car after replacing it. Car drives fine otherwise. In order to pass inspection, the CE light would have to be turned off.
Therefore, is this likely a problem with the fuel system or a problem that would go away? Would this be costly to fix in order to clear the code so I can pass inspection? I know I haven't given much information to go on.

If the light is coming on because of his gas habbits... it will reset itself... but it might take 100 miles or so before it does... if not.. take it by autozone... they usually have a computer you can rent (pretty cheap) to scan for what the problem is and reset it.

Okay, thanks for reply. Is this an actual known issue that can occur because of filling habits? I will ask seller if possible to drive to autozone, there is one nearby.
