Hay guy new here,i have a ? about my 2000 a4 quattro it has a 2001 1.8 turbo eng in it.i have a friend that own's a exhaust shop that said he will build me a turbo back 2 1/2 systems.he is going to leave the cat off so i can make more power,he make's custom exhaust for a liveing.my ? is will i need to get a tune,or a chip or will the car run fine thanks for any help.

 

youre putting on an exhaust? you dont need a chip for that, though you would enjoy the car much more if you get one.

 

I hate to ask, but why do you think you have an 01 engine in your 00?

 

bot the car with bad eng,so replaced it with a 40,000 mile 2001 eng.now we are thinking 3 inch down pipe to 2 1/2pipe all the way out with no cat's.looking into a chip for the trans and eng sometime soon.

 

Just so ya know, pretty much ANY company that sells used engines will tell you it has ~40k on it. There is no way they can prove the actual mileage. Same with most tranny resellers. That is, unless you personally read the odo on the vehicle it was taken out of.
Howmuch were you charged for the 01 ECU that is needed to go w/the 01 engine?

 

Look on the valve cover on the egnine, there should be a metal tab that sticks out that shows your engine code.Does it say ATW or AWM? Sorry im just skeptical about your 00 hav ing an 01 engine in it. Just a lot of BS to go through for that swap. Although 00 engines are difficult to find for sure.

 

did not do swap my self,but was charged 2500 for all the work that was done at the time of the swap.i will have to go buy his word that it is 40,000 mile eng.do not know about the ecu,was not aware that they were diff.when i talked to some guy about cat back systems and chip's they did not say anything about it,will do more research,what do u think aboutthe exhaust.

 

You don't need a chip or any sort of tune for the exhaust to work. A wider aftermarket exhuast systemwill help you get the most out of the chip though, if you get one.
