Default 2 Questions

I just bought a 2001 1.8T Avant and I have two questions that my local muppet Audi dealer wont answer without $100...

I put in a K&N airfilter and then the engine light came on, my brother ran it and it was a lean 1, I cannot figure out if it is the O2 or the MAF and would like to not have to replace both. Anyone have this problem or any ideas?

Also, after paying $50 to unlock my radio, there is no sound except for a tiny bit in the lower left front speaker if turned up all the way. Its the Bose Symphony, I tried to get into the amp, but I don;t have the tool to remove the nut that holds the seat latch. My only guess is that the amp is blown, I want to keep it simple and stock, and would like to not replace the head unit. Any ideas here??

Thanks for any help, I'm loving the Audi and am looking forward to many mountain pinner runs!

Did you oil the air filter? If so oil blew by and fouled up the maf. Don't have a clue about your speaker issue.

they come pre-oiled. Is that something I can just clean? Or am I better off just forking over for a new one?

You are better off using the stock airbox along with a k&n panel filter. Pick up some MAF cleaner spray from autozone. If you don't want the stock airbox then somehow try to dry out the filter so it doesn't happen again. Maybe stick it in the oven on a low temp.

I forgot to mention that it is the panel filter with the stock airbox. I will work out a way to get the MAF out and give it a clean.

I am new to the whole working on the European car thing. So I appreciate the help. Its not often I feel like a total noob...

k well if you JUST put the filter in and you imediately afterwards got a cel with a lean or maf related code that thats gotta be it unless the maf was somehow damaged when the filter was put in from manhandling the air box. Try the cleaner and somehow dry the filter out and go from there.

^ Most companies tell you to just let the filter dry naturally.

Thats exactly what happened. I immediately got the light, so I was worried I damaged it because I didn't realize where it was. I will inspect it tomorrow.

If you imediately got the light like RIGHT after starting it up like within a minute then the maf might be dead and may not be an issue of oil on the maf. The maf element gets real crispy and brittle and can easily break. MAF's are one of the notorious failures with these cars, mainly with the 1.8T.
