2.8l engine swap
I have a 1997 a4 2.8l quattro 5 speed and I am replacing the motor. I have had a head gasket failure and decided to replace the engine with one from a junkyard. The engine I got was from a 1997 a4 2.8l quattro automatic trans. I am attaching the flywheel and noticed that the hole in the crank is smaller on the auto than on the 5 speed. Do I have to pull the crank in order to get this engine installed? If so, are the crank and piston bolts re usable? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

The man crank needs to be used. The pistons and everything can be reused. If you do a hone and rering the pistons, it will have full compression again.
Have a machine shop chech the stock block, if you are lucky, you can mill it flat and reuse it and possibly the heads or ones off a good motor. Will save a ton of time.
