Lightbulb 2.8 V6 POLL - Voltmeter

Hey everyone,

If you own a 2.8L, what does your Voltmeter register while you drive? Mine sits just above 12, then drops to 12 and stays there.

Most other cars that I've owned stay above 12 when the car is running.

Thanks for the feedback!

When it's running it should be well above 12v, mine stays at 14v. Looks like your alternator's either dying or you have some bad connections to it.

Hmm. That's what I thought. Its a brand new alternator.

Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend...

Have your battery and charging system tested for free at Advance Auto - something doesn't sound right. Like the others, mine is at a 14v reading while driving.

I agree. Once upon a time... I recently purchased this car from a guy that is an Audi Tech at the local Audi Dealer.

Brought the car home and found the following wrong (there's more, but this is what I've corrected to date). Unfortunately, there's an electrical ghost that needs to be tracked down...

The List
  • Bad Alternator with Bolt broken off in the engine block (that was fun)
  • Bad starter
  • Disconnected Ground Wire to the fuse panel
  • Replaced lower oil pan gasket
  • Replaced Valve Cover Gaskets
  • Reconnected misc wires & hoses in the engine bay
