Question 2.8 30V Flexi Failure & Starter question

Hi Guys,

I have a leak on the nearside flexi hose on my exhaust....
Do I really have to replace the whole front pipe and cat or is there another way?

Also, how hard is it to replace the starter on this model? Can I DIY? Its a '97 Quatrro Avant with ACK engine.

Thanks in advance

Well an exhaust shop can fix a flex joint for like 60 bux, they can either weld whats there or replace it.

I dont know about the starter, some of them are fairly hard to get at on audi's, im not sure about yours though, someone else will chime in.

Thanks for the flex tip. I hope someone can shed light on starter removal. I've heard mentions of the bumper that have to be removed etc. but I just wanted to confirm with someone who's done it.

You could get one of these and have a shop put it in...don't quote me on the size...you'd have to find one that fits.

Send a PM to member Hiwords - he had to deal with flexpipe damage not too long ago and got it taken care of for not much money. Buzz him for info.

haha no need for pm, i'm here right now. i just bought one from ebay and had a local shop replace it for me. i bought a 2.25" flex pipe but the right size is supposed to be 2". they had to expand the ends a bit more anyways so i'm glad i got the 2.25". also, they're going to have to do a fill weld so it's a little more expensive. listen carefully for any leaks afterwards cuz you may have a little hole somewhere on the welds. another thing to do just to make sure is slap some jb weld around the welded area. if you have a hole b4 the cat, it will prematurely kill the cat.

as for the starter, i've yet to hear about somebody needing to change it. for some reason that thing is almost invincible on our cars. idk if you car is auto or not but the manuals have the starter on the passenger side towards the rear of the front wheels. like if you lie under the car, turn your head left or right and your eyes are even with the rear of the wheels, then look up, you should see it.
