1st gear???

RE: 1st gear???
yeah, the audi has done it for a year and a half (since I bought it), and my miata did the same thing...
my friends BMW Z3 2.8 special edition widebody would go into any gear including reverse at any speed, you could put it into reverse at 30 and it would catch!!!
needless to say, the Z3 was pretty trashed, it just had a full motor rebuild and now its time for the front end to go all carbon fiber!
I am posative that your tranny is fine, when it starts slippin, then you need a new clutch

when you hit the gas and revs go up without the car really goin anywhere and then it will catch and you will start moving, it will shake a bit and feel like bogging, hube loss of power and accereration....our clutches last between 120-150K+ usually...I have seen clutches go at 40k and I have seen clutches go at 170k...it depends on how you and the previous owners drove the car.
if you want to know if your clutch is on the way out get up to 35mph and shift into 5th, and then try and accelerate in 5th, if the car slowly accelerates without the revs going through the roof then your clutch is fine
how many miles do you have on your car?....if you have original clutch expect it to go around 125k or so...if you have already made it to 125k and you don't have the money for a new clutch then baby it, if you beat on a high mileage clutch it will inevitably take a **** and butt rape your bank account in the process...lol

yeah, you can find an independent mechanic for like $60 an hour for about 6 hours and a clutch is about 350 for oem
a private mechanic should be able to do it for less than $800, but if your flywheel is cracked then you are down another 350 or so....you should look into southbend...everyone on here seems to love them, but I had a friend who got one for his jetta and although it functions great, it is the most chattery fu<kin thing[&:]
there was a guy by me who had a clutch installed and totalled his car 9k later, so I bought his clutch and flywheel, only cost me $90
if you keep your eyes out, you will definately be able to find some killer deals...if you or a friend have ever done a clutch before, it is no more difficult than any other

You guys everycar that is manual that ive ever driven is like this. Its probably to defend against over revving and the syncros. Stop telling him his tranny is on the way out. There is nothing wrong with your tranny!
