hey guys i have a 2000 audi a4 2.8 v6 and was going 5mph and wanted to downshift to first and i couldnt????!!! can anyone tell me why???
p.s it seemed like it was locked off but when i got to a complete stop i could put it in 1st just want to know wuts going on thanks for the help....

 

something is wrong w/ the tranny i would say. does it do that all the time?

 

I think its a safety thing w the syncros, if you rev it up a bit you shoul be able to pop it back into first

definately don't try to force it....mine does the same thing, like when I am coming to a stop sign. the car wont go into first until I come to a just about complete stop (unless I rev it up a bit while nudging it in)

sounds normal to me, or maybe we both have some huge problem....lol

this happened to my friends s4, and he had to replace the tranny.

My car does the same thing. I can never downshift to 1st when going slow, but I can shift when around 10-12mph. It's been like that for the last 2 yrs (since I own the car) and no issues at all.

yah nothing is wrong!!!!! most standards are like this... my s4 6 spd and my eclipse 5 spd did this. This is in place to prevent damage to your tranny. also there is no point to drop into first... second will do the job just fine. also same thing is used with reverse when the car is moving forward
