1999 Audi b5 thinking about Halo's
alright I have a 1999 audi b5 pre facelift, my factory lights aren't drl. I was wondering about a good halo light brand that are cheap.
Also do I have to chop my fender for a 1 piece halo light? and if so would I have to chop anything for a 2 piece halo set?
thanks

In a word, don't. This is not a BMW. Any of the halo lights you find are going are going to be so poorly constructed that you will regret it.
If you want to get a set of 1-piece headlights, you'll need to trim out a small tab in the fender area.

Let me chine in on this. Don't do it bro, i had a pair of Halo's on my 01 A4 B5 1.8T AWM, i installed them, being i traded a extra 20.00 OBD II cable for them. So pretty much for nothing. One of them end up constantly, fogging up on me!
On top of that, they actually made Audina look ugly! She looks way better with her stock headlights. Halo headlights are BMW's trade mark and Audi's slanted headlights are Audi's trade mark.
I will say this, if you really want to give your A4 B5 a different look, at least stay with tradition and get some Devil eyes or A5 style headlights.
They are all over the bay for various prices.
I will never install Halo's on my B5 ever again, even if they're the best quality.
I was lucky to get them for free pretty much, so i didn't lose out on anything but the look of the headlights were so horrid!
Its sacrilegious to put Halo headlights on a Audi! I know that now, don't make the same mistake i did.

OEM one piece headlights look a ton better than the stock two piece (I keep wanting to do the swap to my car but I never get around to it), they can be had for about $150 a pair on vwvortex's classified section or ebay

Read this. You'll be happy. Your car won't look cheap. The eBay e-codes posted in my post below have a city light which when used with a Cree LED will look awesome. You'll have to wire those or have them wired as well, but much better than the cheap halo's you'd be installing. But it's your car, man. Do what you want to do to it.

OEM Valeo lights: Super high quality and will run you upwards of $600 new and probably $200+ used if you can find them. Audi B5 S4 2.7T > Lighting > Headlights > ES#458 Xenon Headlights - Pair - B5A4S4ECOXEN
Valeos run D2S bulbs whereas the following e-codes run H7 bulbs. I think you can run H7 bulbs in Valeos, but stock is D2S and that's where my knowledge of that ends.
E-Codes:

E-codes are what most people who do this run as they are much cheaper and appear nearly identical to OEM. The light output and cutoff beam isn't going to be as nice as an OEM, but you won't notice the difference coming from the reflector housings. Obviously it's your car so run whatever you want, but if you put halo style headlights in, most enthusiasts will...not like it. These also appear to have the T10 city light--a small bulb that will actually replace your in-housing fog lights now, but can only be turned on with your headlights on, like now, and will not be bright enough in comparison to really be useful. You can wire them up so that they're on a separate switch or act like your parking lights (not your turn signals). I never did that, but it's possible. Audi made a Funk Switch which can be wired to do what you want. It will look stock and can be used to wire said city lights if you so choose. http://www.ecstuning.com/News/Audi_B5_A4_S4_Funk_Switch
HIDS:
If you're going to run HIDs in e-codes, you'll need an H7 sized bulb WITHOUT error eliminator or adapter (harness maybe, but only if you run 55 watt HIDs). You don't need those. Your best bet is to run 35 watt HIDs at 5000K (white) or 6000K (blue tint). If you run 55 watt HIDs, it will be brighter yeah, but you will also likely need to run a wiring harness to the battery to ensure the ballasts get enough power to fire the first time...it gets messy and having done it myself, I wouldn't do it again.
You can pick up high quality HIDs from H7: Morimoto Elite HID System - HID Systems from The Retrofit Source Inc They are a bit overkill and are basically the nicest you can get, but you may not notice the difference between them and another brand unless your headlights are super high quality as well.
I would buy from the following:
KrautoLED: 35W Digital Slim Line HID Kits | KrautoLED Awesome customer service. Audi owner.
DDM: DDM Tuning 35W and 55W HID Kits I would not buy from again.
VVME: Search Results : VVME.COM, Tattoo Kit, Xenon HID Kit, DVR Surveillance System & Projector I would not.
Fender Cut Write-Up:
2-Piece to 1-Piece Headlight Conversion - AudiFreaks Whatever you do, go slow and test fitment as you go. Cut too much and you're buying a new fender and paint. Take your time. I'd advise you to seal the bare metal where your cut line is with a clear rustoleum or clear coat.
You'll need these:
Audi B5 A4 Quattro 1.8T > Lighting > Headlights > ES#86 A4 European Headlight Wiring Harness - A4UROWIRINGKIT-A
If you search part-outs or have a junkyard local, you can get the two harnesses for $5 each picked up or $20 shipped (What I did). Then you'd have to cut the old harness off and solder the new one on with heatshrink tubbing and all that so it looks OEM and is safe. You're going to remove the turn signal harness from your 2-piece headlights and use it on the E-Code harness. You'll see.
Side Markers:
If you do get the clear cornered/Euro version, clear side markers will help make the look complete. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-A4-S4-B...-/330307359379
They also make a smoked version. http://www.ebay.com/itm/96-99-AUDI-A...-/121077704817
Reverse Lights:
Most of us would also suggest you pick up these reverse bulbs from Krauto: 1156/7506 Hi-Powered 5W CREE LED Bulbs (pair) | KrautoLED They are stupid bright and definitely worth it. Anyone who's bought them will agree. The owner is a cool Audi enthusiast who frequents this forum, too.
This is probably more information than you wanted, but these are the answers and basic recommendations you'd get from the majority of members here. I can send a mod the text with formatting for this post if you want it stickied, though I think you can grab it anyway. This topic comes up about once every month or so.
