1999 Audi A4 1.8 Shut off Problem
Recently bought a 1999 Audi A4 the car is great, but for some reason when it reaches normal operating temperature it shuts off. I believe it is a camshaft position sensor but I am having a difficult time finding its location. If you had any experience with this mechanical issue please help !
Also the OBD scanner can not communicate with the ECU I’ve checked fuses and etc. But everything is fine, one thing I noticed was the radio cables have been altered for a aftermarket stereo. Would that be the cause ?

What engine do you have? It can either be the crank position sensor which is at three o’clock on the driver’s side where the engine meets the transmission, or the cam position sensor which is on the head right by the timing belt cover on the 1.8T. There are two of them on the V6 which I am not familiar with.
As for the OBD, you can try disconnecting the ABS unit and see if that helps. If not that, I’ve also heard unplugging your stereo also works but you’d have to search the forums to confirm that. The best thing to do is to get the communications working first and see what codes are popping up before swapping any parts.
