1999 A4 1.8t Quattro Turbo Issue
Hey All,
First time poster here, so I apologize if this does not conform to code.
However, I recently purchased a 1999 A4 1.8t Quattro (5-speed, of course) with 133,000 miles (I've put on another 2500 in about a month and a half).
Aside from a power steering pump issue and replacing the stabilizer links, I have had very few mechanical issues. I absolutely love this car and want to do everything in my power to make sure I take it well past 200,000 miles.
Up until Friday, the turbo has been virtually flawless...very adequate passing power, respectable starts off the line, great engine tone.
However, somewhere between my rather fast trip from Brooklyn to Long Island and my doctor appointment, the turbo seems to have completely died.
When I got in my car after my appointment, the car was all of the sudden incredibly sluggish and I quickly realized I was no longer hearing that mouth-watering turbo whistle we all love so much.
Is my turbo dead? Could it be a loose connection? Did the gas station lie about the 93 octane I pumped into the tank?
Would love to get an expert opinion or hear from someone who had a similar problem.
I need my turbo back!!!
