1999 to 2001 key style in 1996 to 1998 a4?

Yes, it works - kind of.
My car's a '96 V6 quattro, and I installed the later style fold-away key, off a 2000 model.
I just replaced the ignition, and the driver's door lock.
I deleted my passenger door lock by fitting facelift handles, and my trunk's got no lock either.
Due to the immobilliser in the original key, I still have the old ignition underneath the dash, with the coil reader connected and the old key in place.
Car works as normal.

yes it does work. Make sure you get the correct fcc#! I had the same questions when I did mine, but very few answers so I just risked it and luckily it worked. If you have the moon roof you should have the remote access. you need one with the code MZ2 410 819 6 3 or ending in 64. Those will work. I have one with the trunk button but the trunk doesn't work, I dont think the car is equiped with one. Hope this helps. This one will work, but you can find them cheaper -> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-...83#ht_4597wt_0
