Default 1997 Audi A4 1.8tq dipstick tube replacement???

So my Audi dipstick tube has been broken for a while. The tube is the short version...it's only about 3 inches long (orange piece...between metal tube from the pan and the actual dipstick). My question is: is there a clip that's suppose to hold it in place or is it just suppose to clip onto the little ridge at the top of the dipstick? I put the new one on and got a bit of a click...I added some silicone to help seal everything. I put the dipstick in and went to pull it out and the whole thing came up with the dipstick? Is this a common deal?

The old one was broken in half and the previous owner had a piece of vinyl tube with hose clamps holding it together. The top of the tube was stuck to the dipstick.

Am I missing a clip or is it common to have the whole thing pull up?

There is no clip, it is simply a press fit over the ridge on the metal tube coming from the block.

It is quite difficult to get it to snap into place, but you'll know when it does. It should not come up with the dipstick itself. I would also advise against putting any kind of silicone around it, it doesn't need to be sealed and you don't want any of that falling down inside the oil pan and clogging the oil pick up.
