1996 Audi A4 2.8L Quattro Cruise Control/High Beam Issue
I have had the car for over a year and ever since buying it the cruise control and high beams have not worked. I was thinking that it might be the switch since they are both on the same one, but the turn signals DO work and are also on this switch. I wanted to know definitively before replacing the switch since it is a $300+ part. I thought maybe it was a fuse but I checked 18,19(high beams) and 31(cruise) and they were intact. I was wondering if it could be a relay? Or something else?

Very likely the switch. That switch is really about 10 switches in one, so part of it can go bad while the rest still works.
$300? That must be the dealer price. Bought a new one for my 99.5, was only about $150 at ECS.

The cruise systems on the '96 is often non-working, and usually either dirty contacts in the stalk switch, or a defective module. For the switches, spray WD40 into the crevices, and then cycle each button or slide switch to hopefully restore good contact. For the control module, remove the glove box for access to remove it. Then take the circuit board out, and inspect for obvious burns, cracks, etc. Sometimes just re-soldering the three red capacitors gets the module working again.
