1.8T quattro stock clutch strength

I'm planning on getting an 5 speed A4, but I'm still debating what motor to get. I want to try out a turbo motor, but I'd only be buying it because I can get more power through upping the boost with a chip. Stock, the 1.8T would be a bit low on power for my liking (I'll be going to this car from a 200hp mazda mx3). But now I'm thinking debating with myself whether chipping it would really be worth it because the stock clutch might not be able to handle the extra torque, and I don't want to go through the hassle and cost of changing it. So I'm wondering, around how much torque would the stock clutch on a car with around 200,000 (maintained according to audi's maintenance intervals) be able to hold?

And that's really good to hear, I did a bit of research and I noticed that a stage 1 southbend clutch handles up to 220 ft/lbs of torque, isn't that less than a chipped 1.8t makes? I remember looking through a side that claimed almost 250 ft/lbs running 91 octane gas.

you will never be able to launch a car on the stock clutch with or without a chip, but the only reason to upgrade would be if you were going to throw on a larger turbo, had the trans out anyway and might as well upgrade, or are going to be autocrossing the car or something. as long as you know how to drive stick, a chip isnt going to make a difference to the clutch.

Ok, yea I'm not gonna be launching it hard or anything, thanks for your help. How well will it hold up between fast shifts? The clutch in my current car doesn't grab instantly during WOT acceleration in a 2-3 and 3-4 shift unless I let my foot off incredibly quickly.

The stock clutch can handle launching with stock or chipped power, but it isn't going to last very long if the person slips it all the time.
I actually went about 6 months on a stock clutch going to the drag strip every weekend.

Mad Cow - stock clutch will be able to handle just fine as a daily driver.
The SB stage 1 and CM stage one can handle around 250-275 tq. If you want something that can handle a little more then that you would want the SB stage 2 or the CM stage 3, both of those have a kevlar disk.
Have any questions about clutch kits or need a price shoot me a PM or Email.
