Hi all, new to the audiforum. iv just bought a 1997 1.8t sport.
160,000miles, with the turbo missing due to smokeing.
laast owner said he had fitted a new oil pump the a week lata turbo went. if bought a new turbo, fitted it with new oil & filter, starts fine but top end is very noisey ( tapping) took off the oilcap when running & no oil on the cams, but no warning lights on dash, & Turbo feed has oil pumping through it.
can any1 help me. Thanks

 

oil pickup could be sludged up or maybe the new pump he bought was faulty.

 

im gonna go with sludged up since there is oil going through it but not enough, try running some seafoam through it and need be you may have to drop the oil pan and manually clean the pick up tube.

 

Think iv found the problem, took the cam cover off, the chain tensioner has worn alot,
& is very high, i cranked it over & Oil was spilling out of it as its to high.
so the oils not carrying on to the cams & liffters.
Will fit the part tomorrow will let you know how i get on.

 

i had the same problem but my oil pressure light would come up. Put a half a can of seafoam in there and see if it solves the problem. good luck

 

Heads nakerd, worn away cam bearings / seats. been offerd a head 1.8 20v Turbo, But the inlet ports are alot smaller, mine i can fit 3 fingers in, the other head im looking at i could only just fit 2 fingers in. is their to types of head.

 

I'm guessing you're not Stateside...

It sounds like the head you've been offered is for the 1.8 20V NON-turbo. The 1.8T 20V TURBO head will be like yours: larger ports.
