$2700 for clutch replacment!!!!!
#11
It was pretty sweet though they were cool guys and i got to watch them do it - it took 4 hours and again cost me $200 (obviously cash) and an extra $20 for CV boot replacement that we found out was torn so a total of $220
(if you dont get the point yet, they did it when the dealership was closed, so it was just us 3 in the lift bay)
heres from another thread though from a while back
"yeah all labor will be done by me... i dont think i would pay someone to install anything but a clutch on my car (which i paid $200 a couple months ago at eich vw dealership in stc !!!! so i couldnt pass that up)*
but i would probably do it with help i guess, preferably someone who has done a bt upgrade before"

but yeah there are a ton of us audi guys in stc.... we just went out for BWW last night, but it was closed so went to TGI instead.
Here is a crappy cell pic i took last night - this was before some other guys showed - we also have an imola S4 and a Santorian S4 and some others

@ Mike2PTZero: I have it chipped, but that's it. A stock OEM replacement might not be a good idea if I have it chipped? I'll talk to the shop about getting the flywheel resurfaced. He said they would look at it, and if I wanted it resurfaced, it would add $100.
@alexmurphy: Yeah, I'm definitely not going with the shop that had the original estimate. $900 (total) - $750 (parts) = $150 (labor), You only payed $150 for labor?

Just make sure the person resurfacing it knows what they are doing, I have seen too many messed up by people that had no clue how to resurface a Audi dual mass flywheel.
Stock clutch on a chipped K03 quatto is ok if you drive it like a granny. If you drive it aggressive you need a stage 2 or stage 3 kit. Now if you were FWD you would be fine since there is less load on the same clutch in a FWD car.
If you want to stick with a organic disk go with a CM FX100 over a stock clutch. CM 228mm FX100 will hold around 290-300 ft lbs of tq. This is because it uses a metal backed organic disk and 1800 lbs clamping load vs the 1300 lbs for the stock clutch

the guy i take my car to doesnt work for any repair shop or anything. he used to work for Audi, putting cars together (i think), and now hes retired with full benefits and works on cars for a hobby. hes not really interested in the money part of it so he only charges 30 bucks an hour

I just called another shop that charges for how long it takes, not how long the book says. He was saying it would take 6 hours, and the clutch kit would be ~$400, for a total of ~$1000. At that price, I wouldn't sell the car (even though my bride to be wants me to), but I just keep waiting to get to a point where I won't have to put money into this damn car before I replace it.
A good clutch job shouldn't cost anymore than $1500.
