windbreak noise
Hi
I have a 2001 roadster that comes with a powered glass windbreak behind the seats. Recently, it started rattling when the car is moving. It rattles more severely when it is up. Any quick fix?
Thanks.
Dave

RE: windbreak noise
No real quick fix, besides replacing the entire unit. You can however check the bolts for proper torque that hold the unit in place. Take the top down and pull the cover behind the glass outwards (just pops in and out) and your should see four green T45 torx bolts (two on each side) tighten those and see if it goes away.

Hey Auditech79, Thanks for your help. I re-read your post and try your method again. The cover comes off rather easily - I was just pulling at the wrong place.
It's the passenger side that is loose. I can hold the top portion of the glass while it's still inside the compartment, shake it and it will produce the same rattling sound I was hearing. Tighting the screws probably won't help, as there are no screws that are actually holding the glass itself. (the screws are tight, by the way). The space there is really tight. The only way I see is to add some more padding material on the passenger side to damp the vibration, would you agree? To my surprise, there is already a LOT of sponges around it.
The convertible top, when it is folded down, would actually be pressing against the glass. That's why I don't hear any noise when the top is down.

You can try and add some padding to keep the glass from moving but i thing the belt is starting to slack and will eventually break on you. They DO make a replacment belt assembly but its much easier to replace the entire unit.
