if they did a compression check and there was no abnormal drop in a cylinder it isnt a ring. Which is why i suggest a leak down test.

 

What was the compression results and as said above, have them do a leak down. BTW, i told you how rings go bad, its just wear. It happens mainly do to a bad break-in when the engine is new or not changing oil frequently enough.
