Default what causes a ring to go out in your engine?

so i got a new turbo for my car etc
thought i was blowing out blue smoke from the rear because of a bad turbo seal..
welp the new turbos on and the blue smokes still there
which means im burning oil ... still
the mechanic shop tells me they're pretty sure I have a bad ring in the engine

what different causes make a ring go bad in an engine
and how much do you think it will cost me to have the engine rebuilt to get it fixed?
or would it be cheaper to buy a TT engine and have it put in?

Are you sure you don't have a bad head gasket?

i cant believe the shop cant narrow down without an engine tear down....well if i were you i would rebuild it right.... new rods, stock pistions should be ok, seals, main bearings,etc...of course headgasket and valve cover gasket see i know it might not seem like it, but now is the perfect time to make it stronger unless you dont have plans on making her faster.

ask them what thier labor rate is. ask them how long they have been working on VW or Audis DONT LET inexperienced mechs esp with installing the new stuff. ask nate(cincy) i think you shuld be around 2k installed...depending on what all you get done...make a 2.0l or keep 1.8 your choice..if u wanna build the head or swap it good time too...AEB head or jsut rebuild yours with better ferrea valves and retainers, lifters, etc etc. how much u wanna spend is the question

swap?
what engine would I swap with

and this month Id like to spend this much 0 haha
but next month I can spend about $1500
then if I wait till august
$3000 perhaps

only problem is they have it torn apart right now and i wont have enough money to pay for what they say needs to be done until the end of next month
sucks
i'm pissed cause i spent all that money fixing the turbo because thats what they said was causing the blue smoke (oil burning)
