Default Welp, I didn't get a TT...

I was in hot pursuit of a 03+ TT Quattro coupe but it just wasn't meant to be right now. I am trying to take a break from modding the bajesus out of cars so I got something comfortable that I can still enjoy without wanting to make it a boarderline track-only vehicle.

2003 Audi A4 1.8t
Non-Quattro (The only fault)
5spd manual gearbox
73,800mi (I picked it up last week with 72,000mi)

Options and modifications:
Premium Package
Sport Package
Bose Audio Package

Audi RNS-E navigation
S4 wood interior trim
3.0L memory seat feature
B7 compass rear view mirror
18x8 RS6 replica wheels with new Kumho ASX
Drilled and slotted brake rotors + new OEM pads
S4 door blades
Rear lip spoiler
S4 chrome mirror caps + folding feature and auto-dimming glass

I made a more detailed post here for those interested:
https://www.audiforums.com/m_855885/.../tm.htm#855885

I still really like the TT, so hopefully in a couple years I'll add one to my tally be my fun car. I'll still linger around these parts for the people and to see what sorts of cool projects you'll all cook up.

Thanks,
-Kris

Still a great car. It being a 1.8t audi is the important thing!

This is true, although the AMB isn't quite as impressive as the BEA in the TT's... but it'll keep me happy.

I like the new Flying Pig logo.

The only downside to the AMB in the 03 is the returnless fuel system, but that can be over came.

Since I know you have been to the nitty gritty of the 1.8t's, how do the internals of the AMB compare to the BEA?

I hope I can keep the modding bug tame... I'm considering a downpipe just to get heat away from the turbo and to extend it's life (big issue in the RX-7's with turbo failure due to the close proximity of the cat converter). lol

The BEA has 16v rods which are a little thicker and 9:1 cr. This allows them to boost a few more psi and make another 20ftlbs of tq more than a 9.5:1 and slightly thinner AMB rods.

BTW, the cat is attached to the turbo on the A4 if you didnt already see that

So essentially the same story as a BEA vs. a AWP then? Interesting.

Yea, that is why I want to get rid of the cat. I forgot that with Audi's the downpipe and cat are separate, where as Nissan and Mazda has them together as one unit. I'll probably be getting a test pipe in place of the cat and leaving the downpipe alone. I'd prefer to just get a high-flow cat and move it further downstream in the exhaust system but no one makes a pre-made pipe that is like that so away it goes completely.

I know a lot of K03 failures happen due to oil coking, many attribute it to poor oil use, which plays a part in some car but I think the proximity of the catalyst plays a larger role, much like it does in the FD RX-7's. Despite the benefits the cat gains by being closer to the engine, I feel it's a detrament to the life of the turbo.

034motorsport has a cat + dp section with the cat removed and you can move the cat further back if you want. But you have to use their catback with it however since they use vband to connect everything.

Most turbos last 100k+. The ones that fail are often due to other problems, not oil (unless its sludge).
