The Vag-Com cable came in today.
still dont have a dedicated laptop to do any of this on though. from what I read... you can only license the software on ONE computer with the cable itself, so if I need to use someone else's laptop... I can only use ONE other person's laptop. I need to deactivate the software on that laptop before i can install it on someone else's laptop. (i believe). In other words... if im using other people's laptops... i need to be careful whos laptop i put it on.

Here's a picture of the vag-com cable (left) and the W/M injection kit (right)

Wooooooo...
The 4 Bar FPR and my Timing belt kit (w/ lightweight crank pulley)showed up today too.

This stuff is starting to pile up.
How hard is the Timing belt kit to DIY?
I've got a huge tool resource, but no lift. I have jackstands and roll-ons though.

Think I could do it over a weekend with an experienced set of hands and the manual?

You shouldnt have a problem with help, tools and a how to to follow. Its just time consuming. Think it takes most first timers 8-10hrs

Right on. Think that Alldata thing would have sufficient instructions... or should I not even try without a bentley?

btw.. my extra set of hands is a buddy that owned an auto shop before, though mostly hondas and mustangs (he has a 9.7sec Fox Body mustang GT he built from the ground up. Machined the head, block etc himself)

Additionally, I have a guy here that won't be on hand during the entire thing... but has done 4-5 timing belts on 1.8Ts. A4, GTI, and something else. -shrugs- but he'll be here nearby if we hit a snag.

Someone posted a 225 how to, the only differnce i can see between that and the rest of the 1.8t's is the charge pipe so the untimate timing belt diy on vortex (1.8t section) would also work.

Its always good to have friends..... with personal exp is always a huge +

that version of the ross=tech cable has the license built into it...so you can use it on anylaptop...its just that you wont get ross-tech tech support if you are not the orginal owner without switching the info etc etc but it should still work on any computer without a license
