you start screwing with these cars enough, and it just sticks. The TRUUT28 should be correct for the old TT, and I know the TRUW is right for the new TT. I have the rest of the new TT's VIN memorized as well, but I don't have any reason to give that out.
You think a VIN memorization is good, I know a guy who can list off part numbers for a good number of Audi/VW models. Like, tell him the part you need, he'll tell you the part number. Good for most parts on most cars, not just maintenance things. Works at the local Audi dealership, reads ETKA/Bentley for fun.
BTW, PL20252 is the number for the Purolator oil filters I use... thats stuck in my head as well.
